U.S. Crop maturity slows with cooler weather

CHESTERFIELD, MISSOURI, U.S. — Corn acres doughing surpassed the five-year average last week while corn denting met it, according to a report released today by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Ardent Mills finalizes deal to acquire Mondelēz facility

DENVER, COLORADO, U.S. — Having announced its intent on Aug. 20, Ardent Mills, a flour-milling and ingredient company, said on Sept. 1 that it has finalized the deal to purchase the Mondelēz Canada flour mill located in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The mill produces hard and soft wheat flour for its Canadian bakeries and a number of food manufacturing customers. The details of the transaction were not disclosed.

Cargill completes expansion at premix plant

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA, U.S. — Cargill announced on Aug. 13 that it has completed a $5 million plant expansion at its El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico location.

The plant, which originally opened in 2004, will now triple in capacity to produce more than 9,000 tonnes of premix per month, and employ 85 people. It will produce premix for all species, including aquaculture, with an emphasis on poultry and swine, and will serve markets in Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean.

CWB lifts crop hopes after tour

MANITOBA, CANADA — Drought has badly damaged canola and wheat crops on Canada’s prairies, but not as negatively as expected, despite its crop tour foreseeing the lowest wheat yields in eight years, said Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) on July 23.

All U.S. wheat production seen up 6% from 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — U.S. 2015 all wheat production was forecast at 2.148 billion bushels, up 6% from 2.026 billion bushels in 2014, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its July 10 Crop Production report. The forecast was near the average trade expectation of 2.149 billion bushels.

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — U.S. 2015 winter wheat production was forecast at 1.505 billion bushels, up 2% from 1.472 billion bushels forecast in May and up 9% from 1.378 billion bushels in 2014, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its June 10 Crop Production report.
