BUFFALO, NEW YORK, US – A decision regarding a planned demolition of a historic grain elevator owned by ADM Milling has been delayed until Dec. 27.

New York Supreme Court Justice Dennis J. Ward on Dec. 22 extended a temporary restraining order preventing demolition until ADM and representatives of the Campaign for Greater Buffalo History, Architecture & Culture, which requested the restraining order, have an opportunity to argue their case before court on Dec. 27.

Syria’s wheat harvest worst in 50 years

DAMASCUS, SYRIA – Syria in 2021 saw its lowest level of wheat production in 50 years as drought, high input costs and dire economic conditions took their toll, according to a recent report by the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO).

The FAO noted in its report that “immediate action is required to support the agricultural sector” for its next season.

Judge temporarily halts ADM’s silo demolition plan

BUFFALO, NEW YORK, US – A New York Supreme Court judge on Dec. 19 issued a temporary restraining order preventing Archer Daniels Midland Co. (ADM) from demolishing a grain elevator that was badly damaged in a recent windstorm, the Buffalo News reported.

The elevator, which stands adjacent to the company’s flour mill in Buffalo, has not been operational since 1981 but is considered a historic landmark by local preservationists.

USDA lifts wheat carryover forecast for 2022

WASHINGTON, DC, US — The US Department of Agriculture in its Dec. 9 World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report forecast the US carryover of wheat on June 1, 2022, at 598 million bushels, up 15 million bushels from the November projection but down 247 million bushels, or 29%, from 845 million bushels in 2021. IGC: wheat stocks continue to tighten

LONDON, ENGLAND — Global wheat stocks continue to tighten as the International Grains Council (IGC) released its latest Grain Market Review report on Nov. 18 that showed production falling by 4 million tonnes and carryover stocks declining by 2 million tonnes since last month’s estimates.
