All U.S. wheat production seen up 6% from 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — U.S. 2015 all wheat production was forecast at 2.148 billion bushels, up 6% from 2.026 billion bushels in 2014, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its July 10 Crop Production report. The forecast was near the average trade expectation of 2.149 billion bushels.

The all wheat number included the first survey-based durum and other spring wheat forecasts for the season, as well as revised winter wheat estimates.

Scheiber to become Buhler CEO in 2016

UZWIL, SWITZERLAND — On July 1, 2016 Stefan Scheiber will succeed Calvin Grieder as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Bühler, the company announced on July 9.

Grieder, who has successfully had this position for 15 years, will then focus on his role as chairman of the board, a position he has held since 2014.

U.S. winter wheat crop up 2% from May

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — U.S. 2015 winter wheat production was forecast at 1.505 billion bushels, up 2% from 1.472 billion bushels forecast in May and up 9% from 1.378 billion bushels in 2014, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its June 10 Crop Production report.

The forecast was above the average trade expectation of 1.469 billion bushels.

ADM expanding specialty ingredient assets

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS, U.S. — Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) announced on June 2 that it has acquired tree nut and seed processing assets and operations in Modesto, California, U.S., from California Gold Almonds, adding critical processing capacity on top of ADM’s existing West Coast nut operations in Lodi and Stockton, California.

Under the terms of the deal, ADM is acquiring the lease to the brand-new Modesto processing plant, and taking ownership of assets — including processing equipment — at the facility.

Africa’s food insecurity declining

ACCRA, GHANA — According to the first edition of the Regional Overview of Food Insecurity in Africa (2015), Angola, Djibouti, Cameroon, Gabon, Ghana, Mali and Sao Tome and Principe met both the relevant Millennium Development Goal – that of halving the proportion of the population suffering from undernourishment – and the more stringent World Food Summit target of halving the absolute numbers of the hungry, the United Nation’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) said on June 2.

FAO: World hunger falls to under 800 million
