Cargill opens canola refinery in Canada

WINNIPEG, CANADA — Cargill Limited announced on July 23 that the company’s footprint in Canada’s canola industry now spans the entire food value chain – from the creation of specialty seed breeding to seed crushing to oil refining with the opening of a new canola refinery located in Clavet, Saskatchewan, Canada.

CWB lifts crop hopes after tour

MANITOBA, CANADA — Drought has badly damaged canola and wheat crops on Canada’s prairies, but not as negatively as expected, despite its crop tour foreseeing the lowest wheat yields in eight years, said Canadian Wheat Board (CWB) on July 23.

CWB pegged the wheat harvest in Canada’s prairies at 23.1million tonnes, well below the production of 27.2 million tonnes the region achieved last year according to official data.

All U.S. wheat production seen up 6% from 2014

WASHINGTON, D.C., U.S. — U.S. 2015 all wheat production was forecast at 2.148 billion bushels, up 6% from 2.026 billion bushels in 2014, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) said in its July 10 Crop Production report. The forecast was near the average trade expectation of 2.149 billion bushels.

The all wheat number included the first survey-based durum and other spring wheat forecasts for the season, as well as revised winter wheat estimates.

Scheiber to become Buhler CEO in 2016

UZWIL, SWITZERLAND — On July 1, 2016 Stefan Scheiber will succeed Calvin Grieder as the chief executive officer (CEO) of Bühler, the company announced on July 9.
