Caribbean Preparing For Tsunami Threat

FOLLOWING the devastating tsunami that struck Japan, 33 countries are preparing to participate in the first full-scale simulated tsunami alert exercise in the Caribbean on Wednesday.
The goal is to test the Tsunami and other Coastal Hazards Warning System for the Caribbean and Adjacent Regions, which was established in 2005 in collaboration between regional countries and the UNESCO Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC).

Guyana Could Made Millions Off Japan’s Disaster

Guyana is one of several Caribbean countries which could reap financial benefits from the tragedy that have been hitting Japan over the past week.
Guyana and Suriname could sell forestry products and Trinidad and Tobago could export cement and asphalt. Hopefully, the private sector companies involved in these construction materials will quickly investigate the market.
